Biography
Sisy Gómez Peña is an award-winning director and screenwriter with a remarkable portfolio of short films and documentaries. A graduate of the University of the Arts of Cuba (ISA), where she earned a degree in Film and Television Direction, her works have been screened in cinemas and on television in Cuba and have participated in prestigious national and international festivals such as Muestra Joven – ICAIC, Gibara Film Festival, and World Cinema Amsterdam – GoCuba. In 2017, she moved to the United States and founded JoFE (Jóvenes Frente al Espejo), a platform dedicated to showcasing short films by Cuban filmmakers. The following year, she established Sisyland Films, a production company specializing in branded narratives, collaborating with prominent artists like Descemer Bueno and Aymee Nuviola.
Sisy has also held notable roles outside the film industry. From 2019 to 2023, she served as Vice President of Marketing and Media at Qualinova Collagen, where she managed social media marketing and worked with influential talents. At Sisyland Films, as the Creative Director, she is responsible for developing content strategies and overseeing the entire production process from concept to final delivery. In her role as Director of JoFE, she organizes film festivals promoting independent Cuban cinema, coordinating venues, and securing sponsors.
Her filmography includes several acclaimed works, such as “Habitación 7”, a suspense feature film that won at Muestra Joven ICAIC 2017, and “Cuando Truena”, a documentary on internal migration awarded by the Norwegian Embassy and GoCuba. Another notable short film, “Reflejos”, focuses on the socialization of gender violence and received recognition from UNETE and UNICEF. Sisy has also directed “Trust the Process”, a short film starring Claudia Valdez.
Sisy is currently developing several projects, including documentaries like “El Hijo de Mercedes” about Descemer Bueno, “El Latin Hit Maker” about Rudy Pérez, and “El hombre de las Mil Caras” about Alexis Valdés. She is also working on the short film “Hank”, starring Chaz Mena, and a documentary on Cuban devotion to San Lázaro titled “Fe”. Additionally, she is involved in a digital series, “En Ti”, with Episode 3 titled “Sin Ti”. Her experience extends to music videos, where she has directed a variety of works for artists such as Descemer Bueno, Aymee Nuviola, Amaury Gutiérrez, and Jorge Luis Piloto.
Sisy’s educational background includes a degree in Film, Radio, and Television Direction from ISA, where she graduated with honors. Her thesis film, “Reflejos”, was recognized as the Best Thesis of her faculty and one of the top three in Cuba in 2017. She is also a graduate of the National School of Art (ENA) with a specialization in Performing Arts and has formal training in classical ballet from the “Alejo Carpentier” Ballet School. Sisy has continued to hone her craft through various courses and workshops, including assistant directing and actor direction at ICAIC, and screenwriting development with Patricia Ramos.
